Research

The Falls and Syncope Unit is actively involved in ongoing research programmes into the cause of dizziness, blackouts and gait, and balance instability at all ages and the impact that changes in blood pressure, heart rate and rhythm can have on brain health and falls risk. Additional research includes new models of health service delivery for evaluating patients at risk of or experiencing symptoms of falls, blackouts and unsteadiness.

The research takes place in the Falls and Syncope Unit, the Emergency Department of St. James’ Hospital, and in The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA).
